Week 2 - in the books!
This week we continued to work on our systems and routines in the classroom, but started working our way through our official schedule. We began our math groups and I have the privilege of working with our outstanding first graders! (If you would like to sign up to volunteer during math time, I have a spreadsheet online.)
One of the highlights of my week was during Project Time with Carpenter's class. We started our self-portraits and WOW they are coming along really nicely! They are really taking their time and paying attention to detail and I cannot wait to see the final product.
Another highlight for me this week was writing and creating I Am From poems. Students brainstormed different things (foods, smells, sayings, traditions, etc) that are near and dear to them and help to shape who they are and their identity. Their poems are thoughtful and so so sweet. I will be showing these off at Curriculum Night (9/19) for you all to see!
And of course, thank you so much to our lovely chaperones for the Howell Nature Center field trip. You were so very helpful and I hope you had as much fun on the trip as the students and I did! (I snagged some zipline pictures that I will share with you at some point this weekend)!!
Thank you to everyone for being so wonderful. I truly count myself lucky to be apart of this community and I can't wait to see what else we do together this school year!
